While many pilots long for the reliability, power, and easy relatively low maintenance of turbine engines, few would expect to find one under the cowling of a rag-and-tube taildragger—until now.

CubCrafters on Tuesday revealed the Carbon Cub ULT, its latest modern interpretation of the tailwheel tradition, powered by the new TurboTech TP-R90, a new regenerative turbine engine that captures and repurposes excess engine heat to aid combustion while increasing efficiency and delivering fuel economy similar to the Rotax piston engine used in the aircraft’s Carbon Cub UL sibling.
