After decades of flying radio-controlled model aircraft, including electric-powered drones, I imagine I am not alone in having occasionally wished for a scaled-up quadcopter that I could use for commuting or running errands.

Many drone enthusiasts I know have toyed with the notion of simply building their own personal transports using the same technology that makes the miniature versions so easy and intuitive to fly.
