A cowling says a lot about an airplane.
Think of a Vought F4U Corsair, de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, Cirrus SR22, or even a Sopwith Camel. If you spot any of these models rolling out of a hangar, you probably will be able to identify them by their cowlings alone because they are distinctive and impressive.
