Lycoming Engines announced an 18 percent extension to the TBO, or time between overhauls, on many of its piston engines, giving owners of eligible aircraft hundreds of additional flying hours before their next overhaul.
The company said it raised the base TBO for most of its factory-new and rebuilt engines for fixed-wing aircraft to 2,600 hours, up from the previous standard of 2,200 hours. Lycoming said the change is aimed at reducing operating costs and increasing aircraft availability by keeping engines in service for longer stretches between overhauls.
